July Edition of Letters to our Daughters

Dear Nicky,

Summer is flying by and you’ve been really quite busy, which I ALWAYS think is a great thing for any teenager.  Between lifeguarding at the rec center, volunteering at the library, your Kidtopia job at Keystone, summer soccer league, rugby workouts when you can fit them in, youth group and hanging out with friends you’ve hardly had time to be bored, much less practice driving!

You’ve also found time to do a few hikes with some friends, which I think is great!  I see you forming a closer relationship with two friends who seem to be really great girls.  I think you’ll have lots of fun with them over the next two years.  They’ve also introduced you to a new youth group through a different church and I think its good for you to be plugged back  in.

As you get ready to start your Junior year, you’ve been thinking and talking a lot more about college.  Where do I want to go? What do I want to study?  What do I want to be when I grow up?  For awhile you’ve been interested in Psychology and Social Work, however lately you’re starting to question that direction and have been considering Physical Therapy or Business.  You asked me for some advice on how to figure it all out and I wish I had all the answers!  We decided that you should speak with some people in each of those areas to discover what their schooling was like and now what their jobs entail.  This week you joined me at work and shadowed Gigi, our amazing Marketing Manager.  She’s only two years out of college so it was fun to hang with her for the day and I think you learned a lot as well!  Next we’re setting up visits with a Physical Therapist and a Counselor.  I know these decisions seem big and scary now, but I know you’ll figure it out. I can’t wait to see where life takes you!

I love you.  Muah.  Jojo

July Edition of Letters to our Sons

Dear Will,

Summer is going by quickly and up until recently you were in summer school.  You don’t seem to mind it too much, but I know you’re happy to be done.  You also recently finished up your baseball season which you enjoyed, but now that you’re done its freed you up for some other activities like fishing, Frisco Fun Club and skateboarding with Karis.

You’ve been fishing with Grandpa Gary a few times which you really enjoy.  The time you went up to Montgomery Reservoir you two had a blast and caught so many fish (like 10 or 11).  On the way back you told Grandpa that you had a “terrific!” time.

We also had a nice visit with Grammy and Grandpy this month.  You are so kind and gentle with them – it always makes them so happy to see you.  We also had a nice visit with Aunt Janine, Uncle Dave and Grandpa this month.  It was fun to see them and have dinner in Idaho Springs.

Lately you’ve been skateboarding whenever you can. You and Karis have been spending hours and hours at the skatepark and Woodward.  You are a very determined boy…you have your tricks that you want to learn and you practice until you’re able to master them.  It is such a great quality about you!  Next month you are signed up for a bike and skateboarding day camp at the Frisco Adventure Center.  There will be coaches to work with the kids everyday on their tricks.  You are so excited!

You are still your baby brother’s favorite person.  When he wakes up in the morning he points out the bedroom door shouting “Wuh!  Wuh!”.  Last night when Matthew and I came home he said hi to Daddy and then ran straight into the TV room looking for you while shouting “coming Wuh, Hi Wuh, Hey Wuh!”.  It is so incredible to see your brotherly bond and it will always bring a smile to my face.

You also have a birthday coming up – the big 10!  You, of course, are having a skateboarding party with your friends.

I love you Kiddo! Love, Jojo

Dear Matthew,

This past month we’ve continued to play outside as much as we can and you just LOVE it! Daddy and I have been trying to get out for bike rides on a regular basis so we’ve been putting you in the Burley, which you really enjoy.  We’ve taken quite a few rides with our friends, Cristine and Dave, Ethan’s parents.  You boys love the rides to the park and then the play time!  Some days we ride “up the dam” to Dillon and others we go the shorter distance to the Toddler Park near the rec center.  The Toddler Park is definitely your favorite place to play as everything is the perfect size for you.

You’ve also been growing so much and so quickly lately, I feel as though I am watching you get taller each day.

Last weekend we visited Nicky at her job at Keystone’s Kidtopia.  We rode a little train, you did spin art at Nicky’s station and you went in a Bounce House for the first time.  I wasn’t sure how you would like it, but you are so adventurous and brave that you had a blast jumping around with the other kids.

As I mentioned to your brother and sister, we had some great visits with grandparents and great-grandparents this month!  They all love to see you and hear your new words.

Speaking of your new words, you are talking more and more everyday.  Recently you started forming little sentences as well. Some of them are polite such as “I need bink please” and others are more demanding such as “Hold it”.  You tend to say “I need it” quite a bit about many things and its very funny. One of your other favorite words happens to be “truck” however, you replace the “tr” with an “f” so it makes for embarrassing situations in public!  Your siblings and their friends find it absolutely hilarious.

You also have this strange obsession with a green Croc shoe that we have.  They were hand-me-downs from Red Amy and Leo.  I know when we received them we had both shoes, but now we can only find one.  Many days lately you have been wearing the one Croc with a different shoe and a few days you even went to daycare that way.  You are definitely sure of what you want and usually there is no changing your mind.

Your bond with Nicky and Will is as great as ever and I don’t think its possible for you three to love each other any more than you already do!

I love you my little Matty-G. Love, Mommy
